Chief Engineering Officer
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the condition of all systems and equipment on board a Starfleet ship or facility. S/he oversees maintenance, repairs and upgrades of all equipment. S/he is also responsible for the many repairs teams during crisis situations.
The Chief Engineer is not only the department head but also a senior officer, responsible for all the crew members in her/his department and maintenance of the duty rosters.
When posted aboard a Station or Starbase the Chief Engineer also has the added duty to see fit the repairs on heavily damaged ships that dock for repairs. Coordinating with the Ships Chief Engineer, he assigns what teams of his will help out the most for the repairs that allow the ship to be functional again. Once the ship is functioning by itself, the repairs fall back onto the ships Engineering teams, and the Station's teams return to their posts.
