None of the planets are inhabitable, although Outpost R-58 resides on a moon called Magi orbiting Kalandra VII. The outpost conducted scientific research, did maintenance on the array, and acted as a refueling station. [[Starfleet]] regularly conducted wargames and other fleet exercises there.<br /> <br /> In 2375, during the [[Dominion War]], the [[Federation Alliance]] was entrenched in the system and could move no further. In that year, Captain Benjamin Sisko and General Martok expressed their concerns that the ionic storms in the Kalandra system would expose the starships there to the [[Dominion]], necessitating the need to expand the lines beyond it.
