It is commonly called a &quot;clamshell&quot;, given its shape and the fact that it is mounted over a patient during a surgical procedure. The SSF provides both a sterile environment and vital diagnostic and life support tools, such as a [[defibrillator]] and a [[pulmonary scanner]]. The frame incorporates a battery of bio-function sensors to supplement those of the biobed and overhead sensor clusters.<br /> <br /> The SSF is capable of automated administration of intravenous medication as well as cardiovascular support and emergency defibrillation.<br /> <br /> There are a variety of support frame types for different procedures and different body lifeform types.
