New page

__NoTOC__
The TR (Tactical Rifle) program was initially proposed to develop a weapon that could be used in situations where energy weapons would be unusable or unsafe, giving the Starfleet Marines an advantage over his opponent that would usually be forced to go hand-to-hand. This weapon gained popularity with the recent increase in Borg activity, where it was quickly discovered that ballistic weapons cause massive amounts of damage to drones by bypassing their shielding. Also due to the nature of the weapon the Borg have difficulty adapting any form of counter measure. The TR series of weapons are all caseless ammunition firing weapons. However as ballistic weapons are not readily available and should only be used against the Borg, they will only be used on the request of the First Sergeant, Marine CO or ship CO.
TR-117 Series Sniper Rifle
TR-118 Series Ballistic Assault Weapon
Ammunition
Several ammunition types area available for the TR family of weapons these include:

*Titanium: The standard fired round from the TR Family of weapon; The Titanium round is a non-expanding, deep-penetrating, general-purpose bullet
*Flechette: Literally translated, the word "flechette" means "little arrow" in French. A flechette round is composed of numerous tungsten darts designed to wound and not kill personnel. A sabot holds the flechette, until the round exits the weapons muzzle, at which point the sabot is discarded. Because flechettes are usually constructed of tungsten with a pointed tip, deformation is less likely to occur on contact with body armor, increasing the armour-penetrating factor of the round.

All of the ammunition types are fired at a velocity which does not usually pose a danger to the bulkhead of a starship allowing them to be utilised there in safety.
