Lieutenant Colonel is a senior Marine officer rank. A Lieutenant Colonel typically commands a battalion-sized unit (300 to 1,000 soldiers), with a Command Sergeant Major as principal NCO assistant. They may also serve as staff officers under senior generals or as a Marine Expeditionary Unit Executive Officer.
