Alpha Centauri is a trinary star system about 4.33 lightyears from Sol and the primary of the Alpha Centauri system. It consists of a binary pair, Alpha Centauri A and B (spectral classes G2 V and K1 V), and a third, more distant companion, Alpha Centauri C or "Proxima Centauri".
This system is the closest stellar neighbor to Sol, and the site of the Alpha Centauri colony, where Zefram Cochrane later moved.
After the Dominion invaded and conquered Betazed in 2374, many believed Alpha Centauri could be their next target.
