The planet has perpetual dense cloud cover, which leads to only dim light reaching the surface. It is hot, with a relatively high concentration of carbon dioxide, and dry, with much of the planet's water tied up in the clouds.

| The world was colonized in the [[2050 - 2099|late 21st century]] by refugees from Earth, who genetically modified themselves to become a new species, the [[Besm]]. [[Besm]] refer to the world as ''Home''. It has only two major cities, [[Newer York]] and [[Landing]], where most of the population dwell. Agriculture and mining are carried on by [[telepresence]] and robotics and represent the world's largest industries.
