Building on the success of the DY-20 and in response to the launch by the Asiatic Alliance of their rival AV-1 series sleeper ships and the Russian Federation's Yeltsin Class in 1994, Chronowerx Corporation came to the NASA with the specifications for a larger more efficient sleeper ship, capable of carrying more people and cargo and over a long distance and with upgraded stasis systems enabling two year round trips. Arguably the DY-60 would be one of the most versatile craft ever, continuing to be used after the introduction of the DY-200 series, nearly 20 years later.

The first DY-60 was constructed in 1993, again it was a joint project between NASA and ESA, with the support of the Chronowerx subsidiary, Yoyodyne Space Systems and once launched into space from Cape Canaveral they operated out of the growing number of spacedocks in orbit of Earth either exploring other areas of the Solar System, at their extreme range was theoretically Mars or the Inner Asteroid Belt although problems with fuel supply made that a serious problem, one that would prove insurmountable until 2016, with the Ares programme, run by the International Space Agency (ISA).
