The Idran system is a star system less than five light years away from the terminus of the Bajoran wormhole in the Gamma Quadrant, which is approximately 70,000 light-years from Bajor. It is a tertiary system consisting of a central supergiant star and twin spectral class O type companions. There are no Class M planets in the Idran system.

The Federation obtained its first data of this star system with the 22nd century interstellar Quadros-1 probe. A hydrogen-alpha spectral analysis was among the scans performed on the system. This analysis was later used to identify the system when the first manned Starfleet starship entered the Gamma Quadrant.
