The Legal Corps is composed of the Legal Officers who make up the front-lines of the Starfleet Justice System, Starfleet's specialized system of Courts-Martial, used to deal with offenses committed by Starfleet personnel and others subject to the Starfleet Code of Justice.
Legal Officers are only stationed aboard Starbases and Colonies.

This section also describes the judicial system of the United Federation of Planets, as set out by the Federation Constitution, statutory law, and case law. However, it should be recognized that the vast majority of cases (potentially as many as over ninety-nine percent of all cases), criminal and civil, do not meet the requirements of Federation jurisdiction, and are handled by the many, and diverse, justice systems of Federation members.
