Taurus II

Taurus II is a Class M planet with the rather unique ability to drain energy from humanoid life. The only inhabited planet of the Taurean System, Taurus II was completely occupied by the female sex of a species that colonized the planet sometime before 2020. The males of this advanced species died off some time ago, but the women were able to adapt by luring ships to the planet to help "revitalize" themselves. This process takes place every 27 years and gives them immortal traits, but leaves them unable to bear children.

In 2269, the USS Enterprise was ordered to the system to investigate the disappearing ships. They too, were lured to the planet but the actions of Lt. Uhura and Nurse Chapel save both the ship and male crew. The native women destroyed the signal device and the Federation agrees to help re-settle them on a safer planet three months later. Several scientific expeditions to Taurus II have conducted over the years, but the cause of the planet's danger is still speculative.
