Starship Construction Yard

The starting point for all Starfleet vessels, these yards are where the ships of the fleet are constructed from scratch. Located across the Federation, they are both large and small, catering for the needs of Starfleet in times of peace and war. While most starship construction yards can easily handle a workload of five or more capital ships at any given time, some can cope with considerably more - in the region of twenty to thirty or even more in the case of the largest Federation installations - and some others cannot cope with even that number. During times of intergalactic tension, some construction yards are routinely switched to producing ships of a limited range of designs, such as the Defiant and Hornet, but, under normal circumstances, all vessel types can be built, including runabouts, shuttles and fighters.
