Tomed Incident

A 2311 incident involving the United Federation of Planets and the Romulan Star Empire that cost thousands of lives and resulted in the Treaty of Algeron, which forbade Starfleet from developing cloaking devices and marked the beginning of a self-imposed Romulan exile that would last until the mid-2360s.
