A form of faster than light propulsion commonly found in use among the most advanced spacefaring races in the Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta Quadrants. Based on current subspace principles and technology, the warp drive creates a subspace field distortion around a starship or any other craft that, when modulated appropriately, both lowers the craft into subspace - a marginal transition that reduces the craft's relative mass - and propels it forward.
