The Aerie class is an old design, with a redoubtable configuration which makes her ideal for long term independent operations and has also seen her chassis being reused across a number of different designs and refits being created for a variety of roles, including the Raven class Courier and the Phlox class Medical ship.

The Aerie class herself was originally developed to aid civilian colonisation efforts. Whilst traditionally, Starfleet had supported these efforts with surveys of potential colony locations being conducted by specialised elements of the Starfleet Marine Corps. However my the 2350's, this was beginning to hold up the rate of colonisation particularly by some of the larger colonisations corporations and organisations. To that end, the Aerie class was developed by Starfleet's Advanced Starship Design Bureau and was released to the public market for construction from the word go. The Aerie has come to be a stalwart design in the initial phases of colonisation, landing survey teams and pioneer teams in pre-determined locations to begin setting up for first wave colonisation. The first version was later rebuilt, in 2376 to feature an interchangeable rear pod, to provide three roles to the Aerie, that of Pioneer transport, cargo transport and a pod containing a science laboratory and an Argo All-Terrain Vehicle.

The information contained on this page has not been accepted by Obsidian Fleet's Research and Development department and is thus not an available ship class for a sim.

Modules

Pioneer Module

The Pioneer module is a slight variation on the original Aerie's lower decks. Featuring a small area capable of sleeping 24 pioneers in bunk beds, which whilst not ideal for long term living works well for short term trips to planets. Also included is a large secondary cargo bay, which is used to carry flat-pack living modules, power generators and light agricultural machinery as well as a small supply of food, medicine and a handful of phasers. Enough supplies are contained within to get a small settlement of pioneers established and support them for up to a year, until they can be self sustaining.

Survey Module

The Aerie survey module contains a different set up. With the lower deck almost entirely occupied by a shuttle and ARGO bay, which is able to hold two ARGO ATV's to facilitate exploration, in addition to this, there is a large secondary science lab. In addition to this most survey modules carry a pair of living module, which is flat packed and a couple of shelters for storing supplies as well as a further flat packed laboratory, which is usually used as an isolation lab for medical studies.

The Survey module is able to operate independently for six months and with regular resupply can operate alone for much longer.
