The Assistant Chief Engineer is a position aboard a Starfleet ship or facility. The Assistant Chief Engineer, does as the name indicates, assists the Chief Engineer in the daily work and maintenance of a starship or facility. These tasks usually regard issues of mechanical- and administrative matters and/or coordinating repairs efforts between the various departments.

If so required, the Assistant Chief Engineer must be able to take over as Chief Engineer, and thus must be versed in current information regarding the ship or facility.
