The Marine Biologist studies living organisms in the ocean or other marine or brackish bodies of water. Marine Biology classifies species based on the environment rather than on taxonomy.
There normally only one Marine Biologist on any ship unless said ship has a dedicated mission to explore a body of water be that planet based or space born. Only on stations such as Triton Seabase have more then one Marine Biologist.
The Marine Biologist reports to the CSciO, Chief Science Officer.
