Phendrana Drifts

The Phendrana Drifts are a large mass of celestial clouds found between Ferengi and Breen space in the Alpha Quadrant. The clouds are typically colored in hues of blue and purple that are pulled in predictable paths by the gravity of several surrounding stars. The Drifts are filled with dangerous ion clouds and the occassional plasma storm, rendering them extremely hazardous to enter or remain near. Communication near the Drifts is almost impossible; many subspace messages have been "trapped" inside the clouds for decades before being picked up. Many ships have been lost here over the years and it is typically avoided by a wise captain.

There are two inhabited planets near the Drifts, Arbaza and Efata.

During its first mission, the USS Eclipse investigated a rash of ship disappearances around the Drifts. It was ultimately discovered that the Efati---a species that considered the Borg gods and copied their society---had been using the Drifts to hide their psuedo-Cubes in to attack and "assimilate" unwary ships.
