Synaptic Stimulator

A synaptic stimulator is a small device developed outside of federation space. Slightly larger than a person's thumb, it is often known as the "poor man's holodeck." It features a neural interface and is worn behind the ear. By inducing stimuli directly into the visual cortex the user is treated to vistas and landscapes with accompanying sounds that have been loaded into the unit.

Nowhere near the complexity of a holodeck, or even a holosuit, the synaptic stimulator is incapable of reproducing tactile or olfactory sensations, or blocking out exterior sounds. The unit's processor is too simple to reproduce any sort of AI, so landscapes are the only options; users cannot interact with the artificial environment.
