Sirius (also known as Alpha Canis Major or the "Dog Star") is a blue-white main sequence star (spectral class A0) located about 8.6 light years from Sol. It is the brightest star as seen from Earth, and the primary star of the Sirius System. Sirius has a white dwarf companion (spectral class A2-5VII), referred to as Sirius B or the "Pup". It is located in Federation space.
