Physical Description Sika is a tall rather imposing man with a dark skin tone and a large muscular build. He is Bajoran and wears a traditional Bajoran earring in his left ear that partially dangles just below his earlobe. As typical of Bajorans his nose has the distinctive 'slits' down the bridge of it. He has dark black hair that is somewhat curly and kept shaven or closely cropped. Though clean shaven in his younger years, Sika has chosen to allow some scruff to adorn his face, giving him some 'character' and 'charm' and hiding the baby-face he once had. His more distinctive features are the three horizontal scars across his cheek on his left side and one large scar down his brow to his cheek bone, also on the left side of his body. These scars came from a nasty drunken encounter with an intoxicated Klingon wielding his warrior's knife and cutting into Sika's flesh as though it were putty. Sika has chosen to keep the scars rather than have them cosmetically repaired and his tissue restored.

Personality & Traits

General Overview An unfortunately isolated and withdrawn man with great intellect and vast knowledge in his field of specialty and areas of interest. A competent science officer who has transitioned over to a more technical area of expertise in Cybernetics. He has an obsession with technological augmentations, nanotechnology, cybernetic life forms, and a peculiar almost holy fascination with the Borg.

He is antisocial to the point of being a hermit. He reports to duty on time as scheduled, but after his shift ends, his public appearances for the rest of the day are terminated. He retreats to his quarters or the sanctuary of a lab. He has been called crude, rude, and arrogant. However, one thing he has never been called is unreliable. If your back is against the wall, there is arguably no better person to have at your side.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths:

▪ Quick Wit - When in the Maquis, Sika learned that oftentimes there was no time to truly analyze a problem and act accordingly. He had to learn to think on his feet and use good old fashioned gut instinct mixed with ingenuity. He has come to rely on his quick wit and the ability to reconcile, living with the consequences of his actions.

▪ Relentless - No matter the problem, no matter the odds, and no matter the personal cost, Sika will relentlessly through his time and energy behind something that has been eluding him. Though he has not proven suspicions correct yet, some have determined that he will work himself to death.

▪ Confident and Charismatic - Confidence practically radiates from him and though it flirts with crossing into pure cockiness and arrogance, his confidence in his own abilities has gotten him out of some daring situations.

Weaknesses:

▪ I in Team - The saying there is no I in team is not something Sika prescribes to. He understands teamwork and knows that it is necessary. However, he knows that a team is comprised of several individuals with their own independent contributions. He is not affraid to take credit where and when it is due.

▪ Authoritative and Disciplinarian - He strongly believes in discipline. Though he is not a stickler for rules and is actually one to bend or break them himself, he does believe in a firm hand. If someone is out of line, he will push them back into line or do what is necessary to have them taken off a project or reassigned elsewhere. His tolerable of some things, but inflexible on others. He takes his work seriously. If someone does something that puts the lives of others in danger, it will anger him.

▪ Antisocial - Sika is not a social butterfly. He tends to keep to himself more often than not. If he's not at his Bridge station, then he is likely in his quarters or making use of a lab.

▪ Cynical - Sika is very cynical and a cold hard statistical and analytical matured man. He has spent time with Vedeks, met the Kai, lived on Bajor most of his life and has encountered 'spirits and deities' from various civilizations and cultures. At the end of the day he is an anti-theist, beyond that of agnostic or atheist. He can respectfully keep his mouth shut when necessary, but will be rolling his eyes when having to deal with worshiping anything that's not tangible.

Ambitions Though he had never planned on coming back to Starfleet and was unwillingly reactivated and recalled into service, he has come to terms with this and has a new found rekindled passion for exploration and Starfleet. He's appreciative of this opportunity to head a department and where the uniform again. His greatest ambition is to get more time under his belt and season himself into the officer he should have been over a decade ago.
Hobbies & Interests In his free time, he likes to be in a lab working on a project. Outside of that, you might find him building model starships and listening to music. He has a particular like for Earth Jazz.

Character History / Other

Personal History Whether his name is entirely factual or not is unknown, but it is what he answers to and the name he was raised with. His life was taken away from him well before the Borg assimilated him and before it could ever really take root and start. He was a child of the Federation, an instrument, a tool that was pliable at a tender young age. He knew no parents, only faces of the community and of teachers who served as his guardians. Like a sand castle on the beach, his life that was to be was knocked down early on. The sand carried away with the winds and a new life rebuilt displaced.

He was born during the last several years of the Cardassian occupation of Bajor. That is to say if he was born or sculpted. There is no way to really sugar coat it. A Cardassian scientist took what was needed from a Bajoran male and combined it with the genetic materials from a Bajoran female, having the female carry the child to term. However, the child was a lab rat and his 'mother' was simply his cage. Sika was genetically modified. He never knew his Bajoran father. His Bajoran mother died giving birth to him, at least that was what he was told. The Cardassian who created him was basically his father figure for several years of his young life. However, when the Cardassians left, he was left behind.

After being practically raised in Cardassian laboratories as practically nothing more as a pet, it was the very people he was taught were vermin that saved him. He was a Bajoran war orphan as far as anyone on Bajor was concerned. Steps had been taken, fail safes put into place, and an identity had been given. The boy looked Bajoran and Bajoran he was and would continue to be. He knew only what he was taught to know and to do what he was trained to do which was mostly to exist and blend in. He was placed in good care. Rather than living out his days in an orphanage, he was raised by the spiritualist of Bajor. He helped where he could to rebuild Bajor. Bajor was destined to grow stronger and the Reconstruction period were its crucial years that would shape it into the world it became, a world fated to be part of the Federation.

A group of Bajoran Prylars (monks) had brought him to their Vedek who in turn brought him in front of the Vedek Assembly and ultimately in the presence of the Kai. The information on the Bajoran PaDD that was left with the boy simply identified his name and said that he was a boy who had lost his family during the occupation. He was older than the age most parents wanted to adopt. He was going into his teenage years and instead of trying to place him up for adoption, a Vedek took him in. Though the man did not raise him as his own child, but rather as a child of the Prophets. He was being taught to become a prylar, to study the Bajora religion and culture as he was Bajoran.

Of course the teenager knew better than this. Perhaps it was because a Cardassian had their hands on him when he was just a child or perhaps it was because a Cardassian played god in his creation, but regardless of the reason, Sika was not a firm believer in the prophets. At least not in the spiritual sense. He did find solace in the Bajora faith, but it was his own way and not the way nor path to the Prophets as his Vedek 'spiritual caretaker' had desired for the teenager.

He ran away from the monastery several times and got into heated arguments with the prylars, ranjens, and vedeks. He became problematic for them and was brought to meet with the Kai whom listened to the child and agreed that the will of the prophets were not in alignment for the will of the teenager. He had chosen to close his eyes, ears, and heart to them and could no longer speak with them nor them to him. He had to go his own way.

Part of him hated turning his back on 'his people' because he did genuinely come to understand them and though he did not necessarily believe in the prophets as divine spiritual beings, he respected the theist Bajorans and admired the peculiar entities referred to by the Bajorans as 'the prophets' and thus saw and appreciated as that: peculiar and cryptic alien lifeforms. Time was irrelevant to them, something they barely could comprehend, and he understood that. It was irrelevant. He had learned that long ago. It was clear that he was not going to walk with the prophets and carry the word of Bajora, but his pride for the Bajoran people would not permit him to walk away from the people who needed him. The Cardassians had left everything practically destroyed. He had learned a lot about agriculture from the monks and took that knowledge and applied it to helping the farmers on Bajor. He became obsessed with science as a child and teenager, often swiping old Cardassian PaDDs from abandoned laboratories.

He joined the militia, receiving basic training on weapons, though having lived during the time of the occupation, he already knew his way around weapons. However, it was not something he got much practice with at the monastery though during the occupation, Bajoran resistance fighters would often be secretly moved as part of the underground and pass through the monasteries. Though he was Bajoran, Cardassian was really his native tongue, but he was practically bilingual. Knowing how to read Cardassian text made him rather valuable to the militia. Aside from Botany, he became adept at chemistry and biology. The genetic engineering made him a decently quick study.

The Provisional Government of Bajor had taken control of previous Cardassian property. Terok Nor, a Cardassian space station was operated by Federation Starfleet personnel with some Bajoran militia personnel being assigned to the station as well. Sika was part of the initial militia presence on the station and remained their for a couple of years as part of the station's science personnel on the commissioned space Station Deep Space Nine. Sika was disgusted with the treaty that the Federation signed with the Cardassians. He was discretely a closeted supporter of the Maquis though maintained his enlistment in service of the Bajoran militia and stayed on Deep Space Nine into the Federation-Klingon War, but due to his personal siding with the Klingons, he opted to forgo his service and returned to the civilian life. At least that was what people assumed.

He left the station sometime after and used transports and cargo vessels, to make his way safely aboard a Dopterian tug. The Dopterians were not members of the Federation and were not concerned with asking Sika any questions when he arranged a rendezvous with a Maquis controlled vessel. This would essentially be his new home for the next few months as he found himself in service of the Maquis. All that mattered to him was he was fighting the Cardassians in the name of Bajor and all the worlds that faced Cardassian oppression. They fought along side the Klingons in a couple of campaigns, raids in the Badlands where his scientific prowess was of significant value in the harsh region of space.

In celebration of a glorious raid against the Cardassians, some of the crew went drinking the 'real stuff' aboard a Klingon bird of prey. Kentucky burbon and Klingon warnog were not two things that should ever be mixed. Getting into a bit of a scuffle with a group of intoxicated Klingon warriors, Sika's drinking buddy was a little more nimble than Sika an managed to escape the brawl that night with a concussion and a few broken ribs. Sika, on the other hand, not as quick and nimble met a nasty Klingon who played surgeon on his face and slide him up pretty good with his d'k tahg (Daqtagh), a traditional Klingon warrior's knife. Sika's Orion buddy eventually went to a medicial facility to see about his ribs. However, Sika opted use some of his friend's alcohol and stitch himself up. He could have had dermal regeneration treatment done to repair the damaged tissue and leave him without any scars, but Sika was stubborn and chose to just live with the scars as they 'add character' and give him a story to tell.

The celebration had been great. A bunch of young freedom fighters fighting alongside Klingon warriors and ensure the freedom of a world, keeping it from falling into the clenched fists of the Cardassians. However, the sobering up left the crew a bit sluggish and not prepared for the Federation starship that had been stalking them. As soon as the Klingons were on their way, the Federation starship came upon the Maquis raider and seized the ship, taking the entire crew into custody. Most of them were Federation citizens and some of them had been in Starfleet before resigning or abandoning their posts. Sika did not fall into these categories. He was a citizen of Bajor. As a member of the Maquis, the Federation considered him a terrorist at this point. Bajorans, on the other hand, likely viewed him as some sort of heroic liberator.

However, the Bajoran Provisional Government was not in much of a position to fight for the release of one of their citizens. This left Sika in Federation custody to face Federation law where he was convicted and sentenced to five years on Tentalus V penal colony. His stay on the planet was cut short significantly by the Cardassian announcement that they were allied with the Dominion. The Federation subsequently pardoned all surviving members of the Maquis in coming weeks, their numbers dwindled, their bases exposed. The Dominion had all but exterminated them. Sika was released to the provisional government of Bajor whom welcomed him home as a hero. He returned to service of the Bajoran militia and given an officers field commission to the rank of second lieutenant.

After the end of the Dominion War in 2375, some members of the militia accepted an open transfer into Starfleet and the militia folded inward and became simply a planetary defense force. Not seeing much of a future as part of a planetary defense force, Sika joined others in trading their militia garb for that of a Starfleet uniform. Enlisted personnel were easily trained and transitioned into Starfleet personnel. Militia officers, however, required additional training and formal class time through Starfleet Academy's Officer Candidate Program because the Bajoran Militia did not have an academy.

Sika wanted more than a condensed course and an olive branch officer's commission. He wanted to actually earn the rank and uniform he would be stepping into day in and day out. He applied for Starfleet Academy and took the entrance examinations like any other hopeful cadet. After weeks of waiting, he received his acceptance correspondence that informed him that he would be admitted for the beginning of the next academic semester. He may have been one of the older cadets to attend, but by no means the oldest to ever do so. He declared Cybernetics as a major and later picked up Probability Mechanics as a minor. After four years, he graduated in a respectable percentile.

He properly received the commissioned rank of ensign and in following weeks was given his first Starfleet assignment. The posting was as a junior science officer aboard the USS Forrestal. Aboard the Forrestal, Sika found his background in Cybernetics coming into play in the year following as the starship in 2381 detected Borg transwarp signatures while on simple patrol. The starship reported its discovery and proceeded to investigate. What they found would be their destruction. The USS Forrestal was destroyed as a part of the Federation forces against a Borg armada which left dozens of planets practically leveled and a large portion of the fleet damaged or destroyed.

Ensign Sika was one of the Forrestal's crew to be held in an assimilation chamber aboard one of the Borg vessels and endure the process of assimilation. His time as a drone was not a long one, but it was an experience that would leave him scared. The Borg vessel he was on was ultimately blown to pieces, his body left in space. Enough of his Bajoran essence remaining to read as a Bajoran life form and in capable medical hands, somewhat reversible. He remained in Starfleet for a short while longer, earning a promotion to Lieutenant Junior Grade prior to 'early retirement' and had reached the position of Assistant Chief Science Officer aboard the Norway class starship USS Narvik.

He returned to Bajor for a few years where he lived a relatively simple and peaceful life, using his knowledge and experience to help agriculturally. Wanting to stay fresh and on top of new advancements, Sika attended the Bajoran Institute of Science as a graduate student pursuing a Masters of Science in Engineering. It took him a couple of years to complete the program, but his interests in Cybernetics landed him intrigue from the Federation's Daystrom Institute where a Cyberneticist was looking for a Research Assistant. Over the next few years, the position's duties expanded a bit outside of being just a laboratory research assistant into helping with lectures and eventually 'covering' some of the Cyberneticsist's classes.

Eventually, Sika was given his own classes and added to the faculty of the Daystrom Institute. He continued working as a Research Assistant for a brief while longer, but when the project was finished, he too was finished. He devoted his time preparing his lessons and lecturing to younger gifted minds. He began working on some of his own projects and published a couple of papers in scientific and engineering journals. Though his work was good, his name did not carry much weight nor held merit. He didn't have a Ph.D or some equivalent behind his name that helped others anchor down their publications and help their projects gain traction.

In 2388 while still teaching at the institute, Sika sought to further his career in his chosen field of work. Taking classes himself when he could, he began to work on a doctoral degree in Engineering. Cybernetics remained his primary focus within the realm of Engineering as it was fairly equal parts Science as it was Engineering. The two married somewhere in Cybernetics. It would take him several years to actually complete the program as it was quite extensive and intense. He needed to do more than just attend classes and score high. He needed to do some lengthy in depth research, ultimately put together a damn strong thesis and defend his dissertation in from of a review board.

Six years passed before he was ready to face the review board and defend his dissertation, but his did so with confidence and courage. In the end, he pulled through and the review board pushed him past. He received all the credentials and merit that came along with a Eng.D. It was Dr. Sika Kejal, Cyberneticist from there on out. He had plans to continue teaching and plans to continue his work. Though his plans were put on hold when he received notice from Starfleet Personnel that he was being given orders to report. He was flabbergasted to say the least as he had left Starfleet behind over a decade ago. When he inquired if there had been some sort of confusion, he was informed there was not.

A reactivation clause that was rarely ever used had been triggered on his personnel file. He was being recalled to active status and assigned to the USS Le Corbusier, a Sabre class starship attached to the SCE. Several days later, he was begrudgingly on a transport headed to the Le Corbusier to serve as the starship's Assistant Chief Operations Officer. The Le Corbusier was just a ten month assignment. Though he was not pleased about being yanked from retirement, he learned to live with it for the next ten months. In a way, it was nice being among the stars again though his old uniform was dated and didn't quite fit the same as it had. He had a new uniform and a different outlook on Starfleet after having several years away from it. When his ten months were up, he did not put up much of a fuss when another assignment came his way. An opening on the USS Wolff, a Luna class vessel made need for an available and qualified individual to head their Operations Department. Sika seized the opportunity which came with a field promotion to the rank of lieutenant.
