Personality & Traits

General Overview He has grown up as someone who straddles two realities. The only members of his own kind he knew, prior to his entry into Starfleet, were his parents. His culture and experiences growing up were that of any child of Earth - time spent at the beach, swimming and surfing, and dreaming with his friends under the stars about what the future would hold. Being separated from El-Aurian culture in his formative years, the idea that he will outlive virtually everyone he knows is something he is only just beginning to grasp.

At the age of 50, he is only just becoming what his own people would call 'emotionally mature'. At his heart, he is a natural altruist who is both caring and empathic and possesses a strong desire to help others. He sees individuals rather than just the group. He is something of a natural leader and communicates well with others. Like most El-Aurians, he's a good listener and his eidetic memory means that he remembers what he hears.

- - Bar bets. He's not going to bite. If pressed, he'll quote Sky Masterson from Guys and Dolls: "One of these days in your travels, a guy is going to show you a new deck of cards on which the seal is not yet broken. Then this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the jack of spades jump out of this brand-new deck of cards and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not accept this bet because as sure as you're standing here, you're going to wind up with an ear full of cider."

Ronan was born in New Orleans where his adopted parents own and operate a restaurant in the French Quarter. It was in the rooms over the restaurant that Ronan grew up. He bussed and waited tables after school; while he never developed an interest in cooking (that was his mother's passion), he became very interested in music. He learned the piano and guitar and after hours, would sit in with the house band. He loved those years, learning the stories of the famous musicians who played in the Quarter and participating in the cultural life of the city. Great food and everyone, family and friends, crowded around a long table, and music. Always music. To him, there was no better place to live than New Orleans.

His parents assumed that he would become a musician and while e loved music, loved New Orleans, but somehow, something was missing. It was a great life but it didn't satisfy his need to explore, to be there when someone was in need. When a Starfleet recruiter showed up at his school, Ronan listened. It wasn't long before he knew what he wanted to do.

His easy going lifestyle began to change the night his adopted father brought home a telescope. They spent the night looking up at the stars and in doing so, he became fascinated by what lay beyond their own world. He had always been a good student but now, he applied himself in earnest. He became intensely curious about life on other worlds, how cultures differed from his own, and how much need there was even within Federation space for individuals who were willing to help.
