| General Overview | Nilo is a good-natured man with a great sense of humour, despite the hardships of his childhood and upbringing on Bajor, and a knack for picking up on tactical strategies, how they work and how to defeat them but also with the most inventive way possible, keeping within the rules. When it comes to his work, Nilo is very committed to doing his job and one day hopes to be in the Captain’s Chair, although he is well aware of the job he needs to do to get there. Nilo enjoys his time aboard when serving on duty and loves working with the crew. In his spare time, he enjoys practising his hobby of Archery. He also enjoys spending time on the Holodeck researching and enjoying re-enactments of famous Starfleet Military encounters and often has a go himself. He also enjoys reading science fiction stories and taking part in science fiction Holonovels. |

| Strengths & Weaknesses | Nilo's strengths lay in his ability to analyse a problem and try to solve it there and then in the quickest most efficient way possible. However, he can also get over-exuberant when trying to apply himself because his has plenty of enthusiasm. He is a team player and can also step up to lead personnel and others if the call is made. When things are going well, he can feel confident and sure in his abilities and this gives him a drive to succeed in his work. His weaknesses lie in when he is confronted with a situation that seemingly holds "no way out" or no resolution to it as he can find this difficult when faced with a pressure situation. He feels helpless at times in these situations and often suffers a lack of confidence if he feels that there is the possibility he could fail in the resolving the situation, putting the lives of others in danger. It often reminds him that there are no win situations that have to be faced. |

| Personal History | Nilo knew only hardship as he grew up in the Lonar Province during the period of Cardassian occupation over Bajor. Whilst he and his mother Nilani tended to the family farm on a daily basis and she tended to his education, Nilo’s father Talon was often out either working on local farms to earn good wages or, during night times, he was often working undercover with the Bajoran Resistance. Nilo was often scared and worried about the action his father took against the Cardassians and wondered if one day they would find him and make him pay. Nilo’s fears were finally founded. One night, he awoke to hear noises in the main family room of the farmhouse. As he crept downstairs, Nilo saw that his parents were fighting Cardassian soldiers. Scared for his own life and his parents, Nilo called out, begging the Cardassian officers not to kill his parents. His actions led to Talon killing two officers before a third killed the Bajoran male with a combat blade. Just as one of the soldiers went to kill his mother, Nilo picked up a disruptor and he fired on all of the remaining Cardassians in the room. Hours later, Nilo and his mother moved to the caves further up the province where they hid out for several months. Finally, they came out of hiding when a neighbour came to locate them surprising news: The Cardassians were withdrawing from Bajor. Hours later, Nilo and his mother were back home on what was left of the farm, seeing the poor state it was left in as the Cardassians tried to destroy it in their haste of leaving the planet. Once they started receiving assistance from Starfleet, Nilo took notice of these new helpers in the area and became curious about Starfleet and the Federation. As his interest grew, Nilani could see where her sons heart wanted to be and did all she could to help him reach his dream of joining Starfleet and exploring out amongst the stars, away from Bajor. Nilo applied for Starfleet Academy in 2374 and was accepted. Knowing all this his father had sacrificed for them, this made him more determined than ever to do his best and succeed in becoming a Starfleet Officer and graduating from Starfleet Academy. |

| Service Record | Once Graduating from Starfleet Academy in 2378, Nilo was commissioned an Ensign and assigned to an Engineering post on the USS Jefferson. He originally served as Engineers Mate to the ships Chief Engineering Officer Lieutenant Commander Jonathan Galloway. During his time onboard, Nilo learnt about Engineering procedures onboard whilst the Jefferson toured on its mission was to ferry aid to the various planets in the Cardassian Empire after the end of the war. He found this to be a difficult mission to endure and during the mission spent some time in counselling. After the Jefferson completed its 12-month tour, it was re-assigned to patrol along the Romulan Border, providing material and humanitarian aid to the Romulan Star Empire after the Shinzon incident as part of a Starfleet task group of ships assigned there to begin peace talks between the Romulans and the Federation. Nilo transferred to the Operations Department during his assignment, where he gained more experience and also learnt more about the New Orleans Class of starship itself. Whilst learning about starship Operations and Engineering, Nilo enjoyed the time that the Jefferson used to chart star systems on the outer edge of the Romulan Empire as part of her mission. Once the Jefferson's mission in the Beta Quadrant was completed, the New Orleans Class Starships was re-assigned to go into the Gamma Quadrant and to begin exploration there in 2380. Along with this new assignment, Nilo was assigned to the Operations Officer position. The USS Jefferson spent four years exploring the Gamma Quadrant and charting many star systems and civilisations, allowing Nilo to further develop his skills. During their time exploring, Nilo employed his original thinking for repairs and solutions during different skirmishes with the Breen who had made claims of territory in unexplored regions of the Gamma Quadrant. The Jefferson returned to the Alpha Quadrant during her mission after suffering extensive damage during a battle with rogue elements of the Jem'Hadar. The battle itself was due to a claim on the region made by the Rogue Jem'Hadar who were looking to set up a new Ketracell White facility in the Gamma Quadrant whilst the Jefferson stumbled across this situation as it was charting the region. The ship was put in for refit at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards for six months Once repairs were completed, The Jefferson returned to the Gamma Quadrant where the crew explored new boundaries and regions. The ship returned to the Alpha Quadrant in 2384 after suffering heavy damage whilst inside the uncharted Mourir Nebula. Captain Stonemire also commended Nilo for his time onboard the Jefferson. In 2384, Nilo was assigned to the Vesta Class USS Palatine under Captain Tobias Rao. He spent two years onboard serving in Engineering, under the suggestion of Captain Rao. During his time, Nilo increased his knowledge further regarding this newer class of starship whilst the Palatine toured on patrol in the outreaches of the Beta Quadrant near the Romulan border. It was during his first year on the assignment that the unthinkable happened: the predicted Supernova of the Hoban Star in Romulan space took place earlier than expected. Whilst patrolling the border, the Palatine was one of several Federation Starships that took on board refugees once the event occurred, with the crew taking many of the refugees to Vashti, joining the already organised colony set up by Admiral Picard. The Palatine often made runs from the border to Vashti, allowing Nilo to get to know the locals better and begin learning and understanding more of Romulan culture. During the second year of his assignment, he spent time in the Operations Department, during which time Captain Rao noticed a willingness to explore the stars and learn more from Nilo. With the Palatine being re-assigned to a long-range exploration mission in the Gum Nebula, The Vesta Class stopped off at to DS12 for repairs and upgrades. Knowing that the young officer had a strong path ahead of him, Roa recommended Nilo for the position of Assistant Chief Operations Officer onboard the USS Capitoline, a Vesta Class starship headed for duty in the Alpha Quadrant and also docked at DS12. Captain Rhae accepted the transfer request and gladly welcomed Nilo on board in 2392. With the starship going through a refit over the next 12 months, putting the young officer to work right away. Once the ship was operating in the Alpha Quadrant, Ashley found he adapted to the newer systems of the Capitoline quickly and performed his duty admirably as the ship was initially involved in exploration duties in the Alpha Quadrant, before being re-assigned to the Cardassian Border. During this assignment, Ashley found the exploration side of the mission allowed him to find an inner calm he had missed for quite some time and he re-discovered the enjoyment of exploration and discovery again. Nilo enjoyed this tour as he gelled with the crew as they continued near the Cardassian border and Nilo realised that he had now come to terms with the Cardassian people and what had happened earlier in his life at their hands, however, it soon became obvious during the tour that Starfleet was reducing its presence in the area and that the Cardassian ships and colonies were soon turning away any support the Capitoline and other Federations Starships in the area could offer. With the Capitoline re-assigned to the Beta Quadrant, charting star systems and civilisations, Nilo employed his original thinking for repairs and solutions during different skirmishes with the Gorn, who had attempted to make claims of territory in unexplored regions of the Beta Quadrant. The Capitoline was recalled after suffering extensive damage during a battle near the edge of Federation territory as the crew discovered a small fleet of Breen Warships massing for action inside a Nebula. With the Cardassians reducing their borders and Starfleet moving out ships for other duties, The Vesta Class starship was caught up in a battle with several of the warships. As it turned out, the Breen were massing for an offensive on their former allies to gain ground in the Quadrant itself.
