| General Overview | Akira is a gentle soul, even if he gets an edge when focussed. He enjoys working with machines of all kinds, but isn’t particularly career driven, in fact he can be something of a dreamer. Even so, having had a traditional upbringing in his childhood, he has a strong sense of loyalty and duty and isn’t afraid of hard work. That means he finds it hard to relax though and he spends most of his off duty time doing extra work or research for it, playing games or training with the katana. He can be a warm and compassionate young man, although often shy, but he’s become quieter and more subdued since his brother’s disappearance. | |

| Personal History | Nakata Akira was born in rural Japan, an old fashioned village that stuck to the traditional lifestyle of hundreds of years ago and still held hand made and hand harvested produce high in importance. He grew up with his older brother, Raidon, both boys enjoying and loving the nature and beauty, always finding some game or other to play. However, there was also a strong emphasis on lessons and duty...taught for several hours a day, including swordsmanship. They were also expected, even as children, to help with farming and the upkeep of the village. It was a lifestyle with a lot of work, but it only made the time for play all the more precious, and he enjoyed it, as well as being close to the people of the village. However, when Akira was eight years old, his parents died in an outbreak of illness, the darker side of living a low tech, traditional lifestyle. Akira and his brother, Raidon, were sent to live with relatives in Tokyo, and the sudden difference between the lifestyles was a big culture shock on the boys. They were sent to school instead of being tutored at home, had limited chores, were surrounded by tall buildings with bright lights and modern technology, crowds of people and very little nature. He did well at school, as did his brother, but there was always some fun to be had in the neighbourhood with the others from school and the cliques on the streets. He seemed to have a way with people, literature and theatre and developed a fascination with the technology that was new to him. He started to take things apart to understand better how they worked, but there always seemed to be a part left over when he put them back together again. His grades were good at both school and university, enough for him to have extra studies and a wide variety of job prospects. He decided to stay in Tokyo and work for a robotics company even if his brother, Raidon, had joined Starfleet. He worked in the job for two years, and learnt a huge amount. He wouldn’t stay much longer past two years though, when Raidon went missing in action. He was devastated and dropped out of work while he waited for word that he’d been found, but it never came. After a while, he found it too hard being in Tokyo, with so many memories he’d made with Raidon there. In a bid to get away and following a deep instinct to try and find his brother, or at least feel closer to him, he decided to join Starfleet. He enlisted, not wanting to spend years on an officer’s course, and with his previous experience he was welcomed into Operations. |
