| Personal History | Auren was born in Paris, France in 2373, the son of two El-Aurian refugees rescued from the SS Lakul after the Borg destroyed much of their people’s diaspora. His father was Talren, a temporal research observer within Federation science studying long-lived species and their perception of time. His mother was Mirell, a memory historian and oral archivist known as a “Listener,” collecting and preserving stories from El-Aurian survivors and other displaced groups. Auren grew up in Paris in a dense and multicultural environment, but with a strong sense that he was slightly outside of it. At home Auren was surrounded by stories and recorded memories from his mother, and research and theory from his father. This shaped him early into someone who listens more than he speaks and remembers more than he shows. Even as a child Auren was often calm and observant, sometimes appearing distant while thinking. He showed an early natural ability with spatial awareness, including a childhood incident where he helped stabilize a malfunctioning civilian shuttle and avoided an accident when the pilot suffered a medical incident. As a teenager Auren began ion surfing, drawn to the physical intensity and risk, much to the dismay of his parents, as the sport was known to be physically dangerous in real-life conditions. Auren’s sense of wanderlust also developed during this period, tied to both his El-Aurian heritage and a growing curiosity about regions beyond Federation space, especially the areas his people once came from before the Borg displaced them. At eighteen Auren entered Starfleet Academy on the Flight Control track. He excelled in astrophysics courses and became a standout player on the Velocity team. His natural spatial awareness, calm under pressure, and ability to enter a focused execution state helped him stand out, though at times Auren struggled more with leadership and officer training than his peers.
