Mission:
Negotiations and Apothecaries
Location: USS Wolff - Sickbay
Timeline: directly after Range time
ON:
Gabe slow walked Amanda through the doors of sickbay, her good arm around his neck and his free arm wrapped around her torso. The sling he had placed on her was holding and he wouldnt let her move without him, using his body as a brace for hers to keep her for injuring her shoulder any more. As the sickbay doors opened and looked for the closest biobed and headed there while calling for a medic.
Galatea was finishing her rounds and was just about to head to her office when she heard the call. It sounded urgent so she picked up her tricorder and then headed to the main sickbay. "What happened?" Her eyes settled and she could only guess when she saw the patient. "Arm?" She asked.
"You guessed it doc," Amanda said. "Wasn't my own doing this time."
Galatea had to admit the woman was accident prone. "I see." She sighed, "Okay, let's fix it up again." She looked at the Senior Chief, a man she was quite familiar with. "Well why don't we start with what happened you two." She opened her tricorder and began to scan.
The Chief stiffened slightly at the Lieutenant's question, instinctively going to attention before remembering he hadent placed his charge on the biobed and any sudden movements on his part could translate to pain on hers. He gently eased Amanda onto the bed before facing the Lieutenant and responding in his practicied carreer officer tone.
"Historical combat readiness drills Ma'am." his tone was dry and all buisness.
"I got tackled down into a crater and landed hard, felt my shoulder pop again, doesn't feel broken though." Amanda explained.
Galatea shook her head, "Well there is a dislocation. That I can set." She turned to the nurse to her right, "Bring me an osteo-regenerator." She turned again to her patient, "You have a small brake in your wrist and torn ligaments in your thumb area. "
Turning to the Chief she sighed, "I'll check you over too to make sure you're okay."
He grunted and stifled a growl low in his throt. "Yes Ma'am but I'm not injured."
"Humour me. I just want to make sure you are okay." She motioned for one of the nurses to do a quick check while she tended to her patient with the arm that kept breaking. "Young lady if you continue to come in my sickbay with the same arm I'm going to have to get engineering to build you a shield for your arm." She pressed a hypo to the woman's neck. "Let me know when the pain eases up." There would be some bone setting and a non too pleasant session with the osteo-regenerator.
"Beleive me doc if I could go back in time and stop my sister busting my shoulder for the first time I would do." Amanda said as she felt the pain killers course through her. "I just have to live with it."
She stayed silent for the moment. Hurriedly she worked on getting the bones mended with the regenerator. It was a slow process but things were mending well. She turned to her other patient and reviewed the scans. "You, sir, are indeed fine." She turned back to Amanda. "I will be working on a way to make sure this doesn't happen again. In the mean time because of the brake position and depth it will take a few hours for the regenerator to complete it's work."
"Good luck doctor," Amanda said shifting herself on the bio bed a little. "All these years and no one has managed to fix it properly."
Galatea smiled, "It will be fixed. I never give up easy." She turned to the chief. "Chief you may go if you like or stay with the ensign. Pull up a chair she's not going anywhere for a while. I need to grab a few things and I'll be back." Galatea headed out to grab a few instruments that would help with the bone mending and a PADD to write a few things down.
He snorted "She was injured while on exercies with me. I don't leave my people." he moved to a bio bed across from the Ensign and hopped up on it crossing his arms and eyeing her.
"You sound like my father." Amanda said chuckling slightly.
Gabe eyed her and raised an eyebrow "Never leave a man behind." he said simply.
Galatea came back with a contraption that could be best described as medieval. "Well now that I have the right instrument. It's called the bone gouger."
"Sound ominous." Amanda remarked as Galatea produced the unusual peice of medical equipment.
She grinned, "It is an instrument that I got from a Romulan Colony. It's actually quite good and penetrating the bone and then healing it from the inside. Only one draw back."
Amanda sighed slightly, there were always draw backs. "Let me guess, it's going to hurt like hell or I'm not going to be able to use my arm for a good week?
Galatea put on a surprised expression. "How'd you know?"
"How long are we talking here?" Amanda asked. "A few hours? days?" She didnt want to be out of action for too long.
Galatea sighed, "A day, at most." She looked to the Chief. "Will you be able to stay and keep her focused through the pain?"
He grunted "She's one of mine so the responsibility is mine as well to make sure she follows the doctors orders." he eyed her knowingly "I just met the Ensign but I get the feeling she's one to be hard headed when it comes to medical advice."
"I think skeptical is more the word you're looking for chief." Amanda replied. "A starbase full of doctors couldnt make my arm feel right so I'm unconvinced Doctor Polaris can."
"That dosent change the fact that until she releases you, you, Ma'am, are not going back on duty." he retorted in the way only a senior nco could.
Galatea smiled at the two. "Alright I'll get things ready."
Amanda exhaled fairly heavily, the next few hours were not going to feel good.
