Kinks and Knots

2,344 words; about a 12 minute read

Mission: To catch a thief
Location: Starbase 54- recreation area
Timeline: 30th March 2395

Laying on the sofa in her quarters Taliserra kept glancing at the clock, it was getting closer and closer to the time Deepak had organised her a spa session, she needed the break but didn't feel a spa session was the best thing to do. She thought back to the last time she went to one, with an old close friend from the academy, despite her condition she'd felt comfortable with him but only because she knew him, just the thought of letting an unknown person so close made her tense.

Unfortunately for the Captain, Doctor Deepak El-Azar was not one to fool around with idle threats or half-truths. When he said that he had arranged a spa session for her, he meant every word of it down to the timing. As the Captain was lying on the Sofa, her Ship's Counselor was already doing his 'magic' and crossing the appropriate Ts and dotting the corresponding 'is' as he proceeded to the transporter room with a PaDD In hand.

"You there, good sir," he said cheerfully handing the PaDD to the operator. "Beam me down to those coordinates. Once the transport is complete, lock onto to the Captain's bio signs. She's in her quarters. Then transport her down there as well, but do not inform her, just do it. You have my orders to do so.

Deepak ascended the transporter pad and gave the man a nod. It was with that nod that the process was initiated. The man soon found himself at the resort as specified with a few massage tables and various other stations around the immediate area. He opened a cabinet containing bottles of various creams, ointments, and oils. He took a bottle of one blue tinted oil and splashed a bit on his hands, rubbing them together. He could smell the sweet fruity scent. "Ah, tropical delight" he said as he awaited the Captain and anticipated her protest.

Oblivious to Deepaks scheming Taliserra yelled in surprise as she was encompassed in the beam of a transporter, she tried to grab her combadge to alert someone but the beam out was quicker than her.

She materialised laying on her back on a table in a room lit with relaxing mood lighting. As soon as she was solid enough she bolted from the table heading for the side of the room.

"Don't think I won't have security stun you and haul your incapacitated self back here, Captain" Deepak El-Azar called out after her, starting to begin pursuit of her. She didn't get very far before he called to her. "I knew you'd try to avoid this. So, I took creative liberties and overly complicated paperwork to get them to site to site transport you here."

Hearing Deepaks voice she slowed and turned to see if it was him. "What the hell are you doing Deepak, you can't just transport someone like that, especially a Captain, I can have you charged for kidnapping." She said sternly.

"Calm your spots," he replied swiftly. "I am your Chief Counselor, Captain. The mental and emotional well-being of all crew falls under my jurisdiction. "As I said, I covered myself thoroughly with all the necessary paperwork to 'abduct,' you. Honestly, you are about as bad the Humans were. I've 'burrowed' you for a bit. We have had this scheduled."

"And I might have shown up but you thought it was a better idea to transport me here instead?" The anger in her voice tempered a little as she spoke.

Deepak smirked. "Oh well, it got you here did it not? Now, are you going to come back and get on the table or will I have to enlist some beefcake security personnel to act as orderlies?" countered the man. "You are going to relax, Captain."

"You know what could happen if you tried that," Taliserra said. "and you know neither of us want that."

"Nothing good," Deepak replied. "So, perhaps we may proceed easily and you will just come willingly. You are an incredible tense woman and a frustrating patient. That, I can assure you, but this spa day will do you wonders."

"I don't see anyone else here, you're not planning on doing this yourself are you?" She somewhat dreaded the answer, from what she knew of him the answer was undoubtedly yes.

"Why?" countered Deepak. "Do you not trust me to provide you with proper care? I assure you that I have the formal training and education to ensure your treatment, Captain" replied Deepak. "It's not like I'm going to put you through electric shock or anything."

"I don't....." She took two deep breaths before stepping towards the table. "..fine."

"Trust is everything between the Ship's Counselor," he said "And the Captain" he added. "So, why is it that you have such a hard time trusting me? Because of my unconventional ways or because I somehow am too perplexing for you to handle?"

"You know what my Ptsd is related to," Taliserra said moving to sit on the massage table. "since then I've not trusted any man enough to let them get close to me."

"Have you ever been one?" he countered with a slight smirk. She was a Trill after all, and it was an honest and fair question to bring up. "Joined Trill from my understanding do not tend to always fall into the gender norms of other societies. In general, you're more fluidic in a way?"

"Tigran has had four male hosts, I'm only the second female host." She replied.

Deepak nodded "So, you've been a man four times and yet have issues with men" he replied. "If one has an issue with a Klingon, does that constitute hating Klingons?" he offered. "If it makes you feel any better, I don't prescribe to always being what I am anatomically. When you've had the amount of experiences both you and I have had...it changes your perspective on matters."

He tried to ease the Trill into lying down. "I promise not to poke you with needles like a pincushion" he teased. "Just a simple gentle massage, loosen up that tightness a bit." he added.

Slowly starting to unbutton her blouse she looked him straight in the eyes. "And you promise to stop whenever I tell you to."

"A gentleman always stops when being told to do so," replied Deepak. "I have lived among many cultures on various worlds in different regions, but if one thing has always held true it was that when someone says stop or don't, then you do not proceed any further."

As the last button popped open and the blouse came off it revealed the large scar in Taliserra's shoulder that was the second most visible part of the trauma that led to her condition. Throwing it down she took a deep breath and laid down on her front. "Ok."

"What sort of music do you like?" asked Deepak. He knew that music sometimes calmed people down, and if there was anyone who needed to be calmed right now, it was definitely her. He started to splash a bit of oil on her back. "Personally, Earth has Jazz and some of it is quite lovely."

"That will be ok." She replied twitching slightly as the oil hit her back.

Deepak instructed the facility's computer to play something of the jazz variety. The tune was nice, not one he was familiar with himself, but that was perfectly fine as she started the work the oil in the Captain's skin and work out the tension. "You shouldn't wait for shore leave to ensure you get enough relaxation, Captain. There's plenty of outlets for it aboard the ship be it holodeck or gymnasium. I would really encourage you to seek out ways of relaxing a bit more when aboard. The stress is not good for you physically or emotionally."

Taliserra tensed slightly when she felt Deepaks hands across her back. "I do try but I find it hard to fully relax, I always feel the need to be doing something. I can't just sit there and watch a film or listen to music."

"Part of that sounds like SACOS," replied Deepak in a mocking tone. He was teasing her with the diagnosis of course. "Stubborn ass commanding officer syndrome." he added with a smirk as he massaged her. "That is a common trait among Captains I am sure of it."

Though she tried not to Taliserra laughed quite heartily. "Very common from my experiences."

He was glad to hear her laughing. That was a good sign. "I know how it is. I am not going to push you to do this sort of thing every day because that would be ridiculous and also my hands would hurt" he teased. "However, once a month or so I would like you to do something. Not necessarily this, but something even if it is physical like rock climbing. You seem to be the type that needs an end goal or something to work towards even when relaxing."

"I used to swim quite a lot," She told him. "but now just being nearly naked in the open makes me feel uncomfortable."

He nodded. Deepak could understand someone with her 'baggage' would not easily adjust to being in such a state. "Well, if you plan on going swimming anywhere, let me know. I will find some medical reasons to make it exclusive to you and do not feel like you have to be nearly naked. Wear something you are comfortable in" he said reassuringly. "This is not about everyone else and what they think. This is about you being comfortable enough to relax, and without proper relaxation, you're going to have health problems."

"It has been so long since I've felt comfortable enough to relax." She shuffled slightly on the bed. "Even during our refit where I had pretty much nothing to do but relax I couldn't."

"Because of past trauma or just how you are as a person?" Inquired Deepak. "Sometimes, even I have trouble relaxing. That may be hard to believe, but it is in my nature and as such, a perfect time for you know who to surface and run wild while I'm unconscious."

"Because I had to deal with the fact that me and M'Elise the old Captain lost a lot of the crew and nearly the whole ship in a fight with the group that caused my trauma to begin with. and then M'Elise left too leaving me to deal with everything."

Deepak nodded. "You sound like you've been through a lot, and that is just this lifetime, and if I may be as so brazen to say it...I think abandonment is something you have a problem with, Captain, maybe why you keep yourself a bit distant from the crew?"

"Maybe," Taliserra replied moving her head to lay on its other side. "Most of the people I've felt close to have either left of gotten killed."

"Isn't service in Starfleet grand," countered Deepak. It was a bit of a sly backhanded remark though he meant nothing personal by it towards Taliserra. "Exploration is dangerous and not everyone and everything we meet out here is friendly. Something I am sure you have learned very quickly, Captain. Take it from someone who has outlived friends and people who meant something...do not close yourself off knowing that loss is a possibility. Cling to them and cherish the time that you do get."

"But at the same time a Captain should keep a level of detachment from their crew." Taliserra countered.

"I'm not saying sleep with the crew," Deepak replied with a chuckle. "Yes, a certain level of professional detachment from the crew is expected. The key words there are certain and professional. If you continue to keep yourself entirely shielded from them, you won't establish connections and the crew won't think twice about transferring out or accepting opportunities elsewhere."

"You're right," Taliserra remarked. "I don't want the crew to feel unhappy on the ship. Where do I even begin though?"

Deepak pushed deeper into the woman's back. "Small acts of care and kindness," he replied. "How often do you step into a turbolift and find yourself in there with someone else? What do you say? I am going to guess it is nothing more than a 'hello' or you just stay quiet and wait for your destination" stated the Counselor. "Try engaging more. Ask people how their day is going or what they think about a certain topic. They would appreciate being recognized by their Captain."

Taliserra sighed slightly from the extra pressure of Deepaks hands. "You mean act like any normal person would, I can do that."

Deepak chuckled. "That is an interesting yet accurate way of putting it," replied the Counselor. "If you are having issues with that or have any concerns my door is always open, Captain." Deepak worked out a bit of a knot. "Just relax and I'll work out these tense muscles."

"I'll do my best." Taliserra said, she took a deep breath and willed her body to relax.

Deepak continued working out the tightness and tension for several minutes, most of which he kept quiet for as he contemplated everything that had happened aboard the Wolff, especially the losses among the crew. "I will do my best to help you with the new crew, getting them settled in and adjusted to the ship."

"I know you will," Taliserra replied. "I... trust you, I wouldn't be letting you do this if I didn't."

Deepak smiled though the Captain could not see it. "That means a lot to me. I'll finish up here and then have you back on your way, doing reports or whatever it is you choose to do in your free time."

"Take your time. I don't have anything planned for the rest of the day."
She didn't tell him but she was starting to enjoy the massage.
