Mission: The Silent Scream
Location: Star Base 54
Timeline: 5-April-2395; 0945

Gabe looked at the girl in front of him, she had Esmeralda's eyes, an almost hazel set in warm tan skin with dark hair. If he looked closely enough he could see the hints of his fathers ears and his mothers nose in the young woman that sat across from him. It couldn't be but it was, this girl this Gabriella was his daughter. Four hours ago he was a happy, or as happy as any senior NCO, bachelor with no ties. Free to go or not as he pleased, which was how he liked it. Now, now after coming to Star Base to get his second shipment of 'special' medicinal goodies he was sideswiped by the Base's XO and saddled with a teenage girl of all things.

“Ay Dios mio.” he said to himself.

“God Gabriel you could at least say it was nice to meet me.” the contra-alto voice of his now daughter said. “Instead of mumbling to yourself.”

“I mumble because I... it's a shock you understand and by God girl if I'm your Father you'll address me as such.” Gabe replied quickly. A thought crossed his mind, he had to inform the Captain of the addition to the ship.

“Dam... it...” he trailed off as the then added another thing to the check list of items he had to do before the Wolff departed.

=/\= D'Anconia to Captain Tigran.=/\= he said taking the thought that there was no time like the present.

Gabriella rolled her eyes “You know you can cuss in front of me Dad” the word Dad dripped with sarcasm “I'm fifteen, I've heard it all before you know.”

Gabe stopped and turned his 'Senior Chief Petty Officer' glare which could wither away butter pip Ensigns and shave tail JG's on to his daughter.

“You, little girl are my daughter which makes you a lady and gentlemen do not speak poorly in the presence of a lady. I will not abide that in my house.” he replied coolly.

=/\= Nor will I on my ship young lady.=/\= Came Taliserra's voice over the com system, she'd heard part of whatever conversation Gabe was having with a young woman of some sort.

Gabe blanched but recovered quickly =/\= Captain might you have a moment,=/\= he looked over at his daughter before continuing =/\= I have some news that will require your approval.=/\=

"You dont have a house to lord over Dad." Gabriella said under her voice.

Taliserra caught the quiet mention of 'dad' from the woman, whatever this was it was going to be interesting. =/\= I'm in the ready room, come on up whenever you're ready.=/\=

=/\= Good copy Ma'am, I will be bringing a civilian to this meeting. We'll be there in five.=/\= Gabe said quickly as the took Gabriella's hand and started heading towards the ship.

Gabe noticed that the girl's hand tensed and then reluctantly at first relaxed into his as they walked through the promenade of the Star Base and to the birthing of his ship. He nodded to the Petty Officer on duty and walked through the checkpoint easily. They made it to a turbolift and then onto the bridge to walk quickly to the doors of the Captain's Ready Room. He paused until the command to enter opened the doors.

A few eyes turned to see Gabe cross the bridge with a young woman in tow, civillians weren't allowed on the bridge without the officer on duties permission, it must already have been approved by someone for him to stroll across the bridge.

"Come in." Taliserra called out assuming it must be Gabe.

The doors parted and Gabe entered with Gabriella. He looked calm but there was a new found nervousness bubbling under the surface.

"Mija sit." He said motioning towards the couch before turning to Gabe the Captain.

"Ma'am it would appear that I require an extra birthing for my quarts." He said smoothly. Pulling a PADD from under his arm with the transfer orders and routing for his daughter. As a minor she had the same orders he did authorizing her presence on a Star Fleet ship.

Taliserra took the Padd, "Your daughter?" She asked, while she didn't know much about Gabe he felt like the ultimate single man, not one to want children.

He nodded "Yes Ma'am, she has been recently surrendered to my custody as her mother passed." he coughed not certain if he should explain further.

The girl stirred behind him on the couch in a manner that made Gabe think she wanted to say something. Before he could turn the girl's voice was a soft whisper.

"I miss momma."

"What happened to your mother?" Taliserra asked the young woman, though she had a feeling she knew the answer especially as she'd been 'dumped' on Gabe.

The girl looked at the Captain, sniffed then straightened her back "Shuttle accident." then looked back down at the carpet.

Gabe picked up "Apparently a month ago Esmerelda's shuttle lost engine power in the upper atmosphere of Earth. It crashed, there were no survivors."

Taliserra looked at both of them, she understood perfectly, one of her previous hosts had died in similar circumstances, he had survived the intial crash only to die of his wounds before help arrived. "My condolences, it is never good to lose a parent especially in such a drastic way.

Gabe nodded and Gabriella sniffed. "Thank you ma'am. With your permission I'll speak with the chief of operations about more suitable accommodations."

Taliserra nodded. "Go ahead, I'm afraid there are not many children onboard the Wolff," she said turning to Gabriella who she figured was around 15. "You may have to keep yourself entertained."

"I will be in communication with Starbase to advise me on her continuing education and setting up activities for her. I assure you ma'am she will not interfere with the smooth running of the ship." Gabe said as he turned to look at the girl behind him. A pang went through him as the girl looked dejected and hurt, he opened his mouth and shifted his weight to move to her and stopped. He straightened his back and returned his attention to the Captain.

"Good. A starship is not the best place for children or young adults but we'll help any way we can." Taliserra said reassuringly, she knew some people who probably could help Gabe with his daughter

Gabe nodded "Thank you ma'am." he paused and awaited to be dismissed.

"Is there anything else Chief?" Taliserra asked, when Gabe shook his head she continued. "Dismissed."
