Mission:
A marathon not a sprint
Location: Sickbay - USS Wolff
Timeline: En Route to Mazar Shipyard
ON:
Lieutenant Hope Ross had been working with her staff for some time now and knew that one of her most trustworthy was Doctor Sol. As she started organizing some of the supplies she had requisitioned she started small talk “so doctor” she looked over at Sol “how are things going with you?”
"Most acceptable," the half-Vulcan doctor replied in return, moving to work in tandem with her on instinct. "I was invited to go surfing during shoreleave. It was...remarkably bracing. Have you ever tried?"
“I have not” Hope admitted with a smile on her face “and being crashed around and pulled under by those waves” she was making a hand gesture as she had stopped working and just started talking “it looks more painful than enjoyable.”
"I confess, I could not see the point of wanting to balance on a board on top of water," Sol shook his head, his slight frown showing that there was still something about the idea that perplexed him. "But it was actually rather invigorating."
“Well I’m glad you enjoyed it” Hope smiled at Sol. “I do enjoy the water though and love the beaches back on Earth.”
"Did you manage to get to the beach on Risa?" Sol asked as he glanced her way, and although his tone and features were emotionless, he managed to convey a sense of expectation that she had...because she had needed rest and relaxation.
"I did" Hope smiled "for a few hours and it was so relaxing. How about you what else did you do on leave?"
"Studied the flora and fauna," Sol replied honestly. He was a botany enthusiast, having converted a significant amount of space in his quarters to the pursuit. "Risa has many unique species in their care."
"Sounds interesting" Hope smiled at Sol "there were many beautiful flowers on Risa." Hope enjoyed the out doors and look and smelling pretty flowers and plants. "There was a pink and white flower that had a lovely smell" it reminded her of her mothers perfume.
"The bokaen rose, perhaps?" Sol suggested, glancing to her with interest. "The petals are soft and delicate, with lacy waved edges, layered in white and pale pink. It is a hybrid of a native flower and a recently cultivated rose from earth. The scent is particularly remarkable in warm weather."
“Beautiful flower” Hope replied with a smile.
Without warning, Ash Rowe moved in to the room, the doors swooshing closed in her wake. She slowed up though when she saw them deep in conversation. "Er...should I come back another time?" she asked lightly...and frankly, she'd spent so many hours in Sickbays and hospitals, she was happy to oblige.
“No no this is fine timing” Hope said with a smile and slight nod. “What can we do for you?” She asked.
"I was told to come in this week for a check up," Ash gave an almost apologetic smile as she lifted her hands. It was an all too frequent occurrence for her though. After her racing crash, she'd been virtually pinned back together again. Several surgeries later and she was in a good place, but they kept a close eye on her all the same.
“Sure” Hope smiled “we can get that taken care of” she gestured toward one of the nearest biobed. “Would you mind having a seat Lieutenant Rowe” Hope went and gathered a tricorder from a supply cabinet anf brought up the Lieutenants medical records. “Who asked you to report for a physical?” Hope asked as it was usually her that scheduled crew physicals.
Ash nodded as she jumped up onto the bed, her hands settling on the edge of it as she let out a long breath at the by now familiar situation. "I've had a few surgeries since a bad crash a few years back. I had a minor surgery more recently to try and adjust my hip but I managed to get an infection, so I was told to come back for another look over," she shrugged with a wry smile. "What can I say, I'm sure you like to be kept busy?"
Hope had just come to that part of the Lieutenants medical record when she mentioned the infection and operation. Looking up from the computer console with a smile on her face "I like to be busy, but I hate to see folks sick or in pain." There was a few second of silence as doctor Ross continued to peep at Ash's records.
"Anything bothering you today or just here for a routine check up?" Hope asked as she got ready to start her actual examination of her patient. It would include multiple in-depth scans.
"Just following doctor's orders," Ash chuckled, but shook her head lightly with a sigh. "But I guess I'm still getting some stiffness around the hip and thigh, especially if I'm sat down for a long time."
Doctor Ross listened carefully to what Ash was saying. "I'd recommend some stretching before and after long bouts of sitting" she pressed a few buttons on the console in front of her to make note of the patients complaint. Hope was already taking some scans with the tricorder but moved it to the area of complaint. "I'd like you to consider some physical therapy" she glanced up at Ash "twice a week, just to stretch and strengthen those muscles."
Ash groaned softly, but it was playful in nature. In truth, anything was better than going back under the laserscalpal. "That requires effort," she teased, but with a grin.
“It will only last about six weeks” Hope smiled. “Sometimes the slow and steady fix is the best” she shrugged. “I can also give you a muscle relaxant for the stiffness if you’d like.”
"Sure, sounds good," Ash nodded with a small smile, but couldn't help trying to catch a glimpse at the readouts Hope was getting. "Everything....looks okay, right?" she asked, trying to sound casual, but a note of anxiety crept through. She'd gone through so many procedures, surgeries and therapies that she just wanted to catch a break.
Completing the scan Hope made eye contact and smiled “everything is fine and other than the therapy you are clear for duty.”
Ash let out a soft breath of relief, her smile widening to a proper grin at the words. "Thanks, Doctor...I'll take some physio in exchange for that any day of the week..."
“I agree one hundred percent” Hope said with a smile.
