Mission:
Crisis at Zeta-294
Location: Security office
Timeline: Md01
Though she didn't tend to wear civillian clothes even when off duty today Amanda was, wearing a simple blouse and shorts that showed off her long legs and some of the myriad of scars that adorned her body. Parts of her body still felt weird occasionally but she could walk and could just about lift a phaser, that was good enough.
She headed for the Wolff's security center, kept unconscious for days she'd not seen or heard from her boss in all that time or in the days since she woke up. Passing through the doors she looked around.
"Amanda.." Ensign Joran called out to his friend. "So glad you're back on your feet."
"Hey Joran, no pirate is going to keep my down for long." Amanda replied.
"I can't wait to hear the story of this one, from before we got there" Joran said with a smile. Amanda's stories about her various fights were always great tales. "We had a hell of a time dealing with what you left alive for me, Drake and Volsung.
"I'll have to see what I can remember, I know I had a fist fight with a Nausicaan." Amanda told him. It was true she couldn't remember everything that had happened.
Hadir stepped into the Security suite of offices with his head down. He had a tendency to look down when he walked he claimed that it helped him think. "Oh, Ensign Turell glad to see you out and about. Have you been cleared for duty?" He had not looked at the days reports as of yet. So, if there was one there from the Doctor he had not seen it.
"Hey Lieutenant." Amanda said as her boss joined them and then shook her head slightly. "I'm up and about but they've not cleared me, will be a few days yet."
Hadir smiled in that manner that only Cardassians could. "Well I am glad to see you are mending well. Is there anything that you would like to or need to talk about?"
"How did we do?" Amanda asked. "I know we took out a lot before I went down."
"We won the day nothing less from the Wolff. The ship on the other hand, lets just say that Lieutenant Hunnicutt will have his hand full for a while. But we all will soldier on as it were." Hadir said with a broad smile. "For the time being I would suggest you take a break and relax heal well and then you can return to duty.
"If you knew me well enough you'd know I'm probably going to totally ignore that." Amanda told him, hoping the Cardassian wouldn't be too annoyed she'd more or less just told him she'd ignore a potential order from him. "But you might be right this time, I ache all over."
Hadir knew better than to threaten anything. If he had to he would simply cut out the middleman and have medical temporarily relieve her of duty. But at the moment he knew that was not needed. He smiled in that way that only a Cardassian could. "So, you just came here to make sure that we could not go on without you. Is that it?"
"Maybe." Amana chuckled slightly. "I wanted to know how everyone got along." Her expression changed quite dramatically a few moments later. "One of the doctors told me that Smith and Zize were killed."
"Yes the ship took some heavy losses during the battle." Hadir's voice softened. He was not close to the individuals who had perished, but knew that many were.
"Both ships are still flying and the enemy were defeated. We did our job." Amanda remarked. "Zize was a good fighter, for a Cardassian."
Hadir was taken somewhat aback by the ending of Amanda's statement. He was not sure if she meant anything by it or was he simply reading too much into things. Either way he had to see. He turned toward her with his head cocked to one side in a puzzled way. "My people have given many a species a run for their money when it comes to combat. This would include Klingons and the Dominion."
'Only after we told you they were coming then when you changed sides right before the war was won by us' Amanda wanted to say but noticing the slightly puzzled reaction from Hadir held her tongue. "Like I said, a good fighter. Hope she took plenty of them with her."
"I believe that she did. She had a death that even a Klingon would be proud of." Hadir tried to let the slight sting of her words roll off his back. However, he did find increasingly hard to do so when people showed the old hatreds. This time though he managed to keep it contained.
"Good, it's the only way for a security officer should go out." Amanda said recalling the conversation with James when she had first woken up. "Kicking and screaming and fighting till you can't fight anymore."
Hadir understood that mentality, it was pretty common among security officers. However, he did not agree with it. "For me I hope to go out as an old man and in my sleep."
Amanda chuckled slightly. "If I make it that far maybe it will change to that but for now I'll take kicking and screaming."
Hadir leaned back in his chair as he thought about what she had just said. "I wonder if that is a cultural thing. You see on Cardassia, at least the Cardassia of old, one may have not lived until their old age. So, kicking and screaming was always the way to go. Perhaps that is why I hope to die as an old man. One hopes for something that they do not often get."
"Cardassia has a long and tragic history." Amanda remarked, her family had been involved in a lot of that history. "Hopefully now more of them will get to live to be old men and women."
"Now, that is something that I can agree with. But, I imagine it is going to be quite the long road to get there." Hadir said with a smile. "You know you still have plenty of recouperation time. If I was you I would take advantage of that before you have to return to duty. I hear your direct superior is quite the proverbial slave driver." Hadir smiled in that way that only Cardassians could and winked.
Amanda chuckled again, Cardassians weren't known for their humor but he was trying. "And I can already hear the doctor complaining I've been out and about too much already today." She turned for the exit. "I'll see you all back on the range in a few days, maybe with this time off you'll be able to catch up to my score."
"You can count on it." Hadir said with a smile as she left. When she left he took a mental note that perhaps the Counselor should perhaps have a chat with Amanda. After everything she has been through it couldn't hurt. Additionally the comments she made about Cardassians should be addressed. However, for the time being she simply needed to heal and Hadir knew that.
