Planet 892-IV, also known as Magna Roma, is the fourth and only inhabited planet in the 892 System, Beta Quadrant. It has the rare honor of being evidence to Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Planetary Development, which states similar worlds with similar biological circumstances will develop similar lines of civilization. When visited by the USS Enterprise in 2262, 892-IV had Earth-like 20th Century technology, but its civilization was based on the Roman Empire of ancient times.

A Class M planet, 892-IV was very similar to Earth in geological and atmospherical aspects. It has two moons, several oceans, and three continents. These continents are divided up into several provinces. Estimates place the population at 6.8 billion.

The SS Beagle was heavily damaged by a meteor in 2262 in the system and the survivors made it to 892-IV. The USS Enterpise finds the damaged hulk adrift in space six years later, and goes to investigate. When told they must intergrate into Roman society or fight in the gladiator games, Capt. Kirk choses the latter option. Eventually, the away team escapes. (Reference: The Original Series--"Bread and Circuses")

The Federation quarantines the planet per the Prime Directive. Since First Contact, however, they have developed very quickly. After abandoning their gladiator-style entertainment, their culture and technology advanced at an accelerated rate. Magna Roma is currently in the process of becoming a Federation member world, contributing valuable goods, services, and personnel.
