Algol

Algol (also known as Beta Persei or the Demon Star) is the general name for a trinary system of stars located in the Alpha Quadrant some 8 light years from Talos IV, and 93 light years from Earth. There is a single Class M planet that orbits the second star (Beta Persei B) that is home to the Algolians that shares the name of the system. Positioned between three suns would have normally made terrestrial life impossible, save the fact that Beta Persei B eclipses its larger brother Beta Persei A every two and a half days, for 10 hours at the time. This gives Algol a somewhat warmer climate (similar to Vulcan), but allows for a thriving culture to exist.

Algol joined the Federation in 2297.

Notable locations on Algol include the O'otons Sea, which color varies between orange and rust, and Wasiket City which is built entirely inside a 40 kilometer long, 600 meter deep canyon. It is also home to one-third of the Tri-Planetary Academy.
