The Baikonur Cosmodrome is a Federation shipyard located in Kazakhstan on planet Earth, which began life in 1955 as a testing facility for Soviet intercontinental missles. Baikonur is now home to both civilian and Starfleet shipbuilding facilities. The site was a major launching facility for many of the "sleeper" ships (such as the DY-500-class) of the early 22nd Century. Baikonur specializes in smaller ships and those geared for scientific study, such as the Oberth class, the Rigel-class, versions of the Miranda class, and most recently...the Nova class.
The USS Tsiolkovsky was commissioned at the Baikonur Cosmodrome on stardate 40291.7. (TNG: "The Naked Now")
