Cait (known locally as Ferasa) is the Class M homeworld of the felinoid Caitian species. Cait has been a member of the United Federation of Planets for well over one hundred years. It is the second planet of twelve orbiting a moderate-sized Class F yellow star called 15 Lyncis. It is the only habitable planet in its system and has two moons, Rea and Sura.

The asteroid belt that lies between the fifth and sixth planets of the Caitian system is an abundant source of ores and valuable minerals, not the least of which is dilithium. Orbital refining platforms within the belt provide a large percentage of the dilithium crystals used in that area of Federation space.

The native Caitians are a distinctly felinoid species, and it is believed they are the descendents of an ancient Kzinti splinter group. They are bipedal, and possess a thick, orange mane, long tail, and large golden eyes which give them excellent vision even in low-light conditions. The Caitian language consists of multiple soft tones spoken with a deep purring resonance. This style of communication makes it difficult for them to adapt to phonetic languages spoken by many humanoids.

The Caitians have excellent hearing, with a frequency range far beyond that heard by normal humanoids. For this reason, most Caitians in Starfleet have specialized in communications and sonic sciences.

Unlike the Kzinti, the Caitians are not hostile in nature and their reputation is one of the most cooperative and intelligent members of the Federation. The much sought-after Caitian officers are highly prized throughout Starfleet.
