Chin'toka System

The Chin'toka System is located in the Dorvan Sector of Cardassian space, near the border with the Federation. It contains four planets, two (Chin'toka II & III) of which are Class M that share the same orbit around a K0V orange star. Both planets are also inhabited. On the fringes of the system there is also a planetoid, referred to as AR-558 by Starfleet. This system saw extensive action during the Dominion War.

Towards the end of 2374, Starfleet Intelligence had learned the system was only garrisoned by five squadrons of Jem'Hadar fighters, as more and more Dominion forces were being diverted to the Romulan front. Seeing a chance to launch an offensive into Cardassian space, the Federation Alliance readied every available ship. The Cardassians, however, had foreseen a possible advance in this area, and deployed hundreds of Kimeki class orbital defense platforms. They shredded the Alliance fleet until the crew of the USS Defiant figured out a way to knock out their power supply. The First Battle of Chin'toka, as it was called, saw the fall of the system to the Alliance. (DS9: "Tears of the Prophets")

Unfortunately, the advance stalled due to constant Dominion counterattacks to retake the system. In early 2375, a particular brutal assault was beaten back by Romulan forces despite heavy casualities. (DS9: "Image in the Sand; "Shadows and Symbols")

Towards the end of the war, a combined Dominion-Breen fleet finally recaptured the system in the Second Battle of Chin'toka, relying on the latter's secretive energy dampening weapon that devestated the Alliance response (311 out of 312 ships engaged). (DS9: "The Changing Face of Evil") This also forced Starfleet forces off AR-558 after a five month siege.
