The only Class M planet in the Driaan System, Driaan V was settled by both Orions and Humans in the late 23rd system near the Romulan / Federation / Klingon Neutral zones as an independent self-governing colony.
However in 2361 the Orion Syndicate siezed control of the government and through their own means had built a monopoly with the businesses and corporate owners in Driaan. The government was alone against the most powerful crime organization in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants and quickly faltered.
As the Driaan system was situated near both edges of the Romulan and Klingon neutral zones and its many mining operations Driaan naturally attracted a lot of trade and of course that included more crime to be done and to deal with. Especially when the Federation would occasionally get involved in matters, complicating things.
The range of Orion Syndicate activity then increased into all factors.

- Armed theft
- Murder in all degrees
- Vessel theft
- Illegal drugs & arms trade / smuggling
- Increasing rigged gambling in syndicate casinos
- Gang warfare
- Pirates attacking the already sold gas trade lanes.
The list goes on…a very active small system. Unknown by most but to the criminal world known to most
