Iotian

The native inhabitants of Sigma Iotia II, the Iotians are a humanoid race externally indistinguishable from Humans. Several internal differences have been noted, but their exact physiology has yet to be studied in depth.
The Federation first made contact with the Iotians in 2168, when the USS Horizon (NCC-176) visited. This was prior to any ironclad directive concerning non-interference with a civilization's development, so the effect on the species was immense. The Iotians were already an intelligent and impressionable lot and had developed an industrial society. When the ship left, several manuals and texts on how to build radio sets were left behind. Worse still, a copy of the book Chicago Mobs of the Twenties was also left. The natives considered this almost like a bible, believing it to me a guidebook for the perfect society.
Within a hundred years, the Iotians changed their society to reflect that of Prohibition-era Chicago. The crew of the USS Enterprise attempted to correct some of the cultural damage in 2268, but with little effect.
