J'Naii

The J'naii are an androgynous species within Federation territory.

J'naii do not identify themselves by gender and consider gender-based species with some amount of distaste. Additionally, any J'naii who feels a tendency toward an identifiably masculine or feminine personality is thought to be "perverted" or otherwise mentally ill. Such members of J'naii society are shunned to the point of facing criminal charges if they overtly identify themselves according to gender. Any member of their society found guilty of such behavior is very often subjected to intensive treatment for a cure. This treatment can consist of psychotectic therapy, an intense re-writing of neural pathways to obliterate the gender tendencies.
