The Kohbeerians are a space-faring species that were once "orphans" as their home planet was rendered inhabitable with its sun went nova some 400 years ago. Luckily, they had already been traveling the stars for just over a century and established several colonies throughout the Alpha Quadrant, mostly near Ferengi and Cardassian space. Like their cousin Ferengi and Dopterians, Kohbeerians are an enterprising people driven by possession and profit.

By the 2350s, the Kohbeerians had cordial business arrangements with the Cardassians which allowed them to move nearly free within their space. This was a very profitable arrangement despite the occassional boarding. (DS9: "Second Skin"). They were also one of the first species to open trade within the Delta Quadrant, until the Dominion pushed everyone out. During the Dominion War, the Vorta declared all the previous contracts null and void---a fact that the Kohbeerians didn't forget after the war. When the Cardassian government was rebuilding, they relied heavily on private shipping companies to bring in supplies and goods. The resentful Kohbeerians bought up the largest of those companies and halted the much-needed imports...making the situation much worse.

Physiology

Kohbeerians are a humaniod species, usually the size and weight of a typical Human. They have little body hair and what they do possess is typically a fine, fur-like consistency. Their skulls are particularly thick, with bony "bumps" and a distinctive ridge that goes along the back of the head from ear to ear. "Ear" is a relative term; Kohbeerians have no opening to capture sound. Instead, they have a bony protrusion on either side of their head that picks up sound vibrations. They have large foreheads, square jaws, and two elongated, flat nostrils. Their skin is leather-like, and comes in several shades. Some individuals also have mottled patterns.
