LCARS

The Library Computer Access and Retrieval System (LCARS for short) is the name of the computer operating system used aboard Starfleet vessels and facilities. As well as processing commands to operate the ship or faciltity's systems it controls the storage and access of information stored in the ship's library.

LCARS typically uses clear, touch sensitive interfaces on control panels or displays. These interfaces can be reconfigured depending on purpose and situation as well as physical requirements of the user. As well, the LCARS can be interfaced with indirectly through PADDs and tricorders as well as voice command.
