Ledonia III

Ledonia III is the last of three planets orbiting a F5 V star out beyond Cardassian space. The first two planets are small Class F examples, but Ledonia III is rated Class M. It was discovered in 2364 during a routine survey by a Grazerite science vessel. Most of the surface of the planet was desert-like, even though Ledonia had three large freshwater bodies. The geography was such that the planet's mountain ranges allowed rainfall only in certain areas. The Federation established a small outpost there the following year to work up a more extensive planetary profile.
During the Dominion War, the outpost was abandoned although neither the Cardassians and nor later the Breen seemed interested in claiming the planet. Federation scientists returned in 2376 and devised a plan to distribute the water sources throughout the planet, as studies had shown Ledonia III's soil composition to be idea for crop production. The Starfleet Corps of Engineers began work on the ambitious ten-year aquaduct project two years later, which is slated for completion in late-2388. The re-vitalized land drew a large influx of settlers, including displaced Cardassians.
The major urban center and capitol of Ledonia III is New Plains.
