Mantilles

Mantilles (Pallas 14 Beta) is the second of three (after 2269, two) planets belonging to the Pallas 14 System in the Alpha Quadrant. It was colonized by Humans in the late 22nd Century and was for a time considered the edge of known space. The planet joined the United Federation of Planets in 2248, becoming it's 25th member. By 2260, however, Mantilles' population was at 82 million and had sizable numbers of Vulcans, Denobulans, and Tellarites living there.

In 2269, an unknown cosmic cloud creature that was capable of destroying planets moved into the system. The cloud was picked up on the sensors of the U.S.S. Enterprise, who arrived to witness the destruction of the uninhabited Class J planet Alondra. The crew was able to warn Mantilles (the next planet in line) and eventually stop the creature.

The other planet in the system, Bezaride, is Class J but has not been colonized. Marslike in atmosphere, Bezaride may have once harbored a native culture that has since disappeared.

During the 2320s, Mantilles was a safe-haven for Bajorans escaping the Occupation by the Cardassian Union.
