Neural

Neural is a pre-industrial Class M world located in the Alpha Quadrant. It is very similar to Earth in size and atmosphere, and shares the same four seasons and varied climates. It is home to a race of humanoids that had, until 2267, led a peaceful existence. Their Pre-warp Civilization was tribal in nature, with each tribe taking the name of the geological feature they lived in (i.e. the Hill People, the Town People, etc.). Neural is also home to the mugato, a dangerous ape-like creature with a poisonous bite.

As a young lieutenant, James T. Kirk visited the planet in command of a cultural observation group in 2255.

The U.S.S. Enterprise returned to the planet in 2268 to find the tribes entered into factions fighting one another. It was discovered that the Klingons had given some tribes flintlock weapons in hopes of spreading their influence there. Faced with a dilemma, then Capt. Kirk violated the Prime Directive by contacting some of the factions and arming them with similar weapons. (The Original Series: "A Private Little War")

The Federation has taken steps to protect the planet from further contamination. Ships are not allowed into the system, save an occasional covert observation mission to check on Neural's progress.
