New Aberdeen Ship Yards
The sixth-largest shipyard in Starfleet, the New Aberdeen Ship Yards is located on the Federation world of Aldebaran III. It began solely as a ground-based facility located just south of the city of New Aberdeen, hence the name. Around 2327, orbital spaceframe construction platforms were added which allowed for subsystems to be assembled on the planet and brought into space for final assembly. Some of the first ships built here were the Hokule'a-class and later Korolev-class heavy cruisers. Currently, the shipyard produces Akira class cruisers and Normandy class carriers along with several smaller vessel classes.
The Advanced Starship Design Bureau's (ASDB) Spacecraft Shielding Division is headquartered here.
During the Dominion War, New Aberdeen was one of only three Federation yards equipped to house and repair certain classes of Klingon ships. There had been plans to add facilities to accomodate Romulan ships as well during the early 2380s, but once they pulled out of the joint Obsidian Fleet venture the idea was scrapped.
