An optical data network (or ODN) is a system of multiplexed optical monocrystal microfiber bundles on board starships and space stations that is used for data transfer between all computers, systems, and remote terminals. Typically, an ODN matrix comprises connections to a Computer Core, trunking, subprocessors, boosters, and their redundant equipment. There are usually more than one ODN system installed, each with its own trucks, subprocessors, etc. These redundant systems are linked together to the primary and secondary/auxiliary computer cores, but they can stand alone and operate all systems.
