Position Description

Pilots: People who take the conn, take the wheel, control navigation and engine speed/velocity, while also listening to where they need to go, how far away from probing sensors, and understanding how manuverable their ship is, or not.

Pilots of Civilian Cargo Ships Being a cargo ship getting to where we're meant to be going can be a pretty important point. The pilot is the one to get that job done. Navigation, docking, warp speed, are all in your hands; the captain says go and the pilot pushes the button. You've been to flight school, you know what all the little lights on the console mean, and when it comes to a creative course plotting you know where to head. It's slow steady work that can take a few days to get from one place to another, even a few weeks. You'll be sitting on your backside for hours on end watching navigational read outs. A good ship is your playground, and the Bridge is your home, gazing out at the space, watching for whatever it is that the galaxy can throw at you. But this is a cargo ship, flying around at warp 9.9 isn't going to happen.

Pilots of other Civilian Vessels Just because you're a civilian doesn't mean you won't be flying other fancy, faster vessels. Racing shuttles, ship's designed to maraud, or perhaps a sexy and sleek one man shuttle for the adventurer who loves warp jumping across the known Universe. Whatever you end up piloting, remember that you aren't the boss unless you own it. There's still a chain of command out there in the big ol' Universe, and it depends on how rich you are.

Steps To Becoming A Pilot Flying school is your best bet, after you've finished your civilian schooling. Maybe you were a test pilot, or a ferryman, piloting shuttles from one location to another. Perhaps you piloted large cruise vessels from planet to planet, colony to colony, working for a corporation, a trade commission, or maybe even a group of civilian researchers. Pilots are usually adept in three or four different species' ship designs, with technology being crossed from one species to another, as well as the amount technology available to civilians meaning you take what you can get. To quote another of television's great pilots, "I am a leaf on the wind, watch how I soar."
