History

The Releigh family are huge business dealers whose claim to fame is the extensive network of business contacts they have across the Alpha quadrant, most notably on the colony of Greiz II. The huge city of Neo New York City has been the home of the Releigh family since it was first conceived back in 2274. As the name suggests this business powerhouse is based around a family structure, a rigid hierarchy that governs the different aspects of the organisations. Currently the CEO of Releigh Holding is Alexander C. Releigh, the oldest son of the, now retired, former CEO. His brothers, sisters and several non-family members govern most of the different branches that are part of this umbrella corporation.

In its beginnings the Releigh Family was a manufacturer of environmental alteration technology, under the company name of Releigh New World (RNW), similar to the technology used to make Risa into the paradise island it is today. RNW was started by Christiano Releigh back in 2372 and he expanded into Neo New York City upon its founding, made possible by the technology provided by RNW. Cristiano built the headquarters of his growing organisation which doubled as the climate control center for the city and the surrounding land. RNW found so much demand and so little supply that within ten years of its starting it was a multi-colonial organisation involving most of the Releigh family.

It had branched out to include a farming supplies factory, Tilled Earth, which they bought from a local businessman. This man was accepted into the 'family' and his offspring has managed this branch of the holding since. This was the first expansion and as the old saying goes: people with power really only want one thing, more power. Within another decade Releigh Family Holding was born and now held the majority stock in over 200 different subsidiaries. There was really nothing in Neo New York that wasn't, at some point, touched by the Releigh Family. But that one colony world was not enough and with the development of better warp engines came the interstellar expansion of the family.

Nowadays the Releigh Family is an honest business power that everybody has to deal with if they want to do business in and near the Greiz solar system. Having, amongst other things, a fleet of civilian freighters, an orbital shipyard and several mining organisations under their wing they exist in every level of both society and the market. The Releigh Family is big on trust and loyalty more than money and as such they are more willing to do business with trusted, more expensive, friends than with the cheap counterparts. One would do well to keep the Family on their good side.

Family Crest

To conduct their business the Releigh family uses representatives. Twelve in total. They are referred to as 'Mister Johnson' and all have a specific Ring with them, any single one is unique in some way, although it is not quite clear in what way (to avoid counter fitting). The Family Crest and Motto is printed on all the rings.

The ring is made of Gold Pressed Latinum and layed in with eight diamonds. The motto, "Per Ardua Ad Alta", is latin (an old Terran language) for "Through hard work, great heights are achieved". These rings are shown to those who have a healthy dose of scepticism about them and require proof before they believe a Mister Johnson.

The Releigh Family and Legality

As happens with most influential groups, be it companies or families, the boundries of what is legal seems more flexible to those in power. The Releigh Family has been accused, but never convicted, of conducting shady businesses through third parties like Bounty Hunters, private freighters and other skilled individuals throughout the quadrant. It has been said that they have an influence in the Federation Council, and at least one member of the family has been active in Federation politics in the past, but has since officially retired.

Most of the illegal business alluded to involves the smuggling of illegal substances, like Romulan ale, or the conduct of corporate espionage. As stated before none of the family members or subsidiaries have ever been found guilty on any charges.
