Rigelian quilled wolf

The Rigelian quilled wolf is native to Rigel V, but can also be found on two other planets in the Rigel System. This large canine-like mammal is known for its aggressive behavior and long, sharp quills that line its back. Typically, the wolves grow to be 3.3 meters long and can stand nearly 4 feet high at the shoulders. They can weigh in the range of 300-350kg.

Quilled wolves have keen eyesight and acute hearing to go along with a double set of 3-4 inch canine teeth. The quills along the spine normally lay angled to the animal's rear, but can be made to stand straight up when it feels threatened. Each quill is a hollow tube on the end, with a gland underneath the skin that squirts a paralyzing neurotoxin once impaled in a victim. While not deadly to many animal species (including humanoids), it still has the ability to incapacitate. They are the apex animals on the Rigelian worlds.

Unlike their cousins on other planets, quilled wolves are solitary animals. While they prefer to hunt and kill fresh game, they aren't above scavaging when the pickings are low.
