Colony

A colony is a settlement under the administrative control of another state, generally relying on that 'mother state' or sponsor to represent them in galactic government such as the United Federation of Planets Assembly or Klingon High Council. When certain criteria is met, such as self sufficiency and population levels, a colony can apply for full status such as the case of Alpha Centauri colony.

Generally the settlers have a common goal or philosophy.
