Spirits of Emperors Past

Spirits of Emperors Past are, in Zarnac mythology, the guardians afterlife for the honored dead.

As an extension of the Zarnac belief in their emperors as deities, it is believed that - when the living emperor dies, he reascends to the Celestial Gateway. There, he joins the other deceased Zarnac rulers who constantly watch over and protect their corporeal "children".

The only way for a Zarnac (this being the loose definition of Zarnac - including all subject races which comprise the Empire) to join the Spirits of Emperors Past is to live an honorable life, and die an honorable death. This death need not be in battle. If a Zarnac were to give his or her life to protect another, they would ascend to the Celestial Gateway just as a Zarnac who died in combat.
